June 15, 2015

Dear Family,

Thank you so much for your letters.  I love to read your letters, and most all of you wrote me!  What's up with that?! ☺

So, you probably want to hear about my week?

We've been running around a lot. Because we went all the way to London on Friday it kind of sucked a lot of time out of our schedule.  But seeing Elder Holland was awesome. The bus was late getting us to Hyde Park so Elder Bethers and I only caught the last 45 minutes of his talk, but I got some good stuff from it. This week has really just rushed by.

Tuesday we had some good teaches with John and Amanda and Collin. I showed Elder Bethers around our area. Wednesday we helped a member of the Ward with one of the houses he is flipping. He's really behind on all the repairs and fixes. He was injured in an electrical explosion and was in a coma for a few weeks and his 20 year old son recently died. Just a whole heap of stuff happened, but he's finally feeling up to coming back to church - so we helped him out. Lots of drywall and painting and fun manly construction stuff.

A few of our investigators have dropped off and one might end up homeless this week. We'll find out later this afternoon. If I could I would give up most of my time and try and help him find a job or money or a home or whatever. But I can't do that because I am a missionary. I've been called to build the kingdom of God here on the Earth. Yep, me and the Quorum of the 12 - we're building the Kingdom.

This should be a good transfer, though. Elder Bethers is a good guy. Funny side-note, his older Brother served here in St. Austell 4 years ago. Small world, huh?

The coming week should be good as well. We recently got some new sisters in the District so that should shake things up a bit.

Everything we need is here in the Gospel, just as Elder Anderson recently put it. So, however hard it gets there at home keep on keeping on.  Endure to the end, the reward is coming.

Love to all. Talk to you next week.

Night at London Temple

June 8, 2015

Dear Family,

Well, I don't have loads of time this week. Plus, I'm on my ipad.  Right now I'm down in Plymouth with my new companion, Elder Bethers. He's from Holiday, Utah. He's been out 10 months. He's a good companion. We'll be spending the whole day here until Elder Douglas comes back from the Temple to come and get us. There are going to be Sisters over in Redruth this transfer, too. It's been almost a whole year since I've had Sisters in the District.

This week has been pretty good. We've found some really good new investigators this week. Thomas is only 22 and we also found a young couple with three kids, Amanda and Collin.

We had some really good service projects with some less-actives in the ward. The Allens' back garden was a massive bramble jungle. We used an electric lawn mower like a trimmer kinda thing to take it all out. I got poked and jabbed so many times! We also helped out a member of the Ward take a load of stuff to the dump. It was good fun. I love doing service.

We had a Multi-Stake Broadcast with Elder Holland, from Edinburgh, Scotland, the same area where Elder Holland was Mission President of, back in the early 90's. It was broadcast all over Scandinavia and the UK. He gave a really good talk about the Book of Mormon. He speaks with such conviction. It's amazing. We will go to Hyde Park with the London Mission and listen to him. Can't wait!

Dave, the one with the baptism date, got scared off because of the Word of Wisdom. But Helena, a member of the Ward, will keep a close eye on him. Harry is still thinking about it all. He came to the broadcast and enjoyed it but in the end it just gave him even more to think about.

But that's really about it for my week.

Oh, and just so you guys don't worry about me too much, last week I had a good ponder and I decided I'm not worried about coming home and all that. When it comes it comes, and that is life.

Also, I would like to buy some shirts to bring home. And I want to get some stuff for you guys, too Thanks!

I love you guys!

June 1, 2015

Dear Family,

Thank you all for the letters this week. I don't have loads of time today but I'll try to get through everything.

This week has been pretty good for us. Antony cannot make up his mind so he will not be baptised yet. That's really what it's come to. Yes or no and a confirmation. We had some funny teaches as well with Harry and Dave. They both had had a little to drink before the lesson.... So we taught them the Word of Wisdom! I don't know how deep it sunk in, but it's on their mind at least.

We also met some really cool new people this week. One is named James. Stellar kid. Goes to Uni down in Falmouth and studies Sport Science and wants to be a body builder. We'll be seeing him later this week. We also found a guy named Murray. Does fruit and veg at Asda. But he can only meet on Thursdays.... which is a shame because the next two Thursdays are packed....

Did I tell you guys that Elder Holland is coming on the 12th?!! The whole mission is going. I'm super excited. Round 2 with one of my favorite Apostles.

Joan is moving along. We really do hope her husband calms down though. It's nothing serious. He just doesn't like us too much.

We'll see Gwen as well on Tuesday. We're going to be reading the Book of Mormon with her.

It seems like everyone we're teaching just needs a testimony of the Book of Mormon and everything would work out!! But it's just getting them there that's the hard part....

Monday we had a really great p-day with the other Elders. We went down to Charlestown. It's where most of "The Pirates of the Caribbean" was filmed. It was a really cool place. Lots of good pictures.

We also had our last interviews with President Millar. He's such a good guy. I'm going to miss him a lot.  He's going home just a few weeks before me. So, I'll only have about 3 weeks with the new one. President Millar is thinking about sending me a greenie for my last transfer, which I would like a lot. Good motivation to keep me going. But that's really my plan for my last transfer. Make it as spiritual as possible and work hard.

Have a great week. I love you all!

May 25, 2015

Dear Family,

Thank you so much for the letters and pictures and stuff. I always love seeing them. Everyone has grown up so much since I left. We'll have so much to catch up on.

I'm glad to hear things are going alright back home. Everyone is staying happy and faithful. Chase, are you sure you really want to finish high school as a Toro? really? really really? Volleyball isn't everything. Think about it.

For Dad I will share 3 miracles of the week.

1. We had a really great teach with our investigator Antony. He has let us know that his experience at the Temple this Thursday will determine if he will be baptized, or not. He will be taking the 5 hour trip to the temple with Bro. Dean. They will go to the Visitor Center and watch some films, and whatnot. Du, the Chinese Sister I taught back in Welling, in London, was in the exact same situation Antony is in right now. Du went to the temple, watched "Meet the Mormons" and was baptized shortly thereafter. So, let's all have faith in the Temple and the spirit that is there, for Anthony. A prayer Wednesday night for Antony will be good timing on your part.  Thanks.

2. We were out in St. Blazey the other day looking up some potentials. We were about to go to the Valentines, but had a few extra minutes. So we decided, instead of being 10 minutes early to the Valentines, to go knocking. The first door we knocked on, we taught her about Eternal Families and will be seeing her tomorrow!  Our teach with the Valentine's was very good, too.

3. We are teaching a Seventh-Day Adventist named Dave (not the one whose getting baptized soon). He is quite the Bible scholar and likes to ask the deep questions. But, last week he read loads of the Book of Mormon, and agreed with what he read. We testified of Apostles and Prophets, and he liked it. I then talked about being quickened by the spirit, and it totally made sense to him.  We then read 2 Nephi 32 about pondering these things in your heart, how the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do, and how he needs to pray about all this. And he's also agreed to come to church. Most of our lessons with Dave can be sporadic, and all over the place, but it was a super good teach. Then he opened up to us at the end about how he's uncomfortable with the women ordination thing, and how it's creeping into his church. We shared our take on Priesthood and Ordinations, and he liked it a lot. So, it's been good with Dave.  The Lord was involved in this one!

I thought it was pretty good week. There was some other cool stuff that happened this week but I can't remember it all right now.

Dave (out baptismal date) is doing alright. We need to teach him about the Word of Wisdom. We might have to move back his date. Let's all pray for him, too.

We also had another part-member family at church! Also, a member invited her sister to church and she should be getting in contact with us soon when her sister is ready for the lessons!

Yeah, I'm feeling better this week, too. My sinuses are calming down, finally.

We should be having interviews with President soon, and Elder Holland is coming to the mission next transfer!!!!! Great News!!!  I'm so excited!!!

So that's my week!

I love you all!

St. Austell is a pretty place.

May 18, 2015

Dear Family,

Thank you for your letters this week. I've been praying a lot for you guys this week and I'm glad to hear you are all doing okay. There's only, like, 1 more week of school over there, right? That's weird. School here will hit their half-terms in 2 weeks. I still don't understand the system here. Their summer breaks are pretty short, if I remember right.

So, it's been a pretty alright week. We had 4 investigators at church! Everyone we expected. It was really good. We have about 7 investigators we see regularly but only 2 of them are really progressing. Dave is scheduled to be baptized next month and Harry will get baptized as soon as he wraps his head around authority.

I got a sinus infection this week.... My head has been just throbbing the last 4 days. Ever since we got back from Zone Training, which was really good. We had to drive 4 hours to Poole, but it was okay. We had a brand new greenie from South Africa in the car with us. I laughed a bit when he asked me how long I have been out.... And then laughed even harder when he asked how long Elder Lee has been out. It's kind of strange to think that almost 2 years ago I was in his seat.... sometimes it feels like I was just in his position, but not. It's strange. It feels like I'm in limbo on a mission, sometimes. Strange

We got back in contact with 2 really great families this week as well. The Greens got baptised back in January and are struggling a bit. They were baptised in the Newton Abbot Ward and then moved here to St. Austell. They really miss Newton Abbot a lot. Newton Abbot is pretty hard to compete with, though. But we're doing our best to help them. We also got in contact with the Valentine Family. The Dad is a member, but he's married to a non member and between the both of them they have, like, 14 kids. I think only 9 live with them all the time. But they are super cool.

That was pretty much my week. Still trying to figure out how to use these ipads the best. I'll figure it out eventually. Then it will probably be time for me to go home. haha.

I love you all!

May 11, 2015

Dear Family,

It was really great to see all of your tired smiling faces yesterday! Skypeing is always a weird thing for me because I feel so informed about everything going on over here and with missionary work, but then I'm asked questions about things back home and I just have no idea. I've been forgetting lots of silly things lately. Like, do we have a double sink back home, or is it just one big sink? I cant remember!

I'm pretty sad to hear about what's going on back home - Chase getting booted outta the State Volleyball Tournament and with the car. I'll pray for you guys. Everything will turn out alright.

This week has been really good for me. I like St. Austell more and more. The Cornish people are really laid back and nice. And we have a good sized teaching pool as well, which is nice. There's Dave, and another Dave, Antony, Harry, Gwen, Sarah and some other people just kind of in the works. It's hard to keep track of them all. And we're always doing our best to talk with the few people that are actually roaming the streets.

The Ward here has about 90 people that come to church, so not as big as my last area, but church is good. Later today we'll be having a meeting to get our ipads as well. It should be fun. Then, on Thursday we have a Zone Conference over in Poole.

That's pretty much my week. But I might have to mail those forms for school to you because I don't think we have a scanner here. But I'll see what I can do!

Love you all!

May 3, 2015

Dear Family,

You'll never guess what is happening to me.... I'm getting moved again! Later today I'll be heading over to St. Austell with Elder Lee. Yup. No more Newton Abbot. Even though I've only been here six weeks I am going to miss it dearly. Such wonderful people in this Ward, especially the youth. They are all great. Yesterday we went around and saw about half of them. It was really nice. They were all pretty gutted to see us leave. All of their mothers thanked Elder Fairbourn and I for the positive influence we made on them. It made me really happy. I was suprised when a choice few of them told us directly that they were going to miss us a lot. Some of them can act a little hard sometimes. haha.

Last night our last stop was at the Miles' house were Ben (he's 16) had out all of his guitars so that we could play a bit. They were pretty impressed with my skills haha. But Ben had a beautiful Gibson Les Paul SGJ. Man, it inspired me.

We also had a chance to teach James and Anita Gilbert one last time. The lesson was so powerful. We gave them one of the Book of Mormons that the Whiteheads put together (yes, i have been lugging it around this whole time) with a note in it and they really appreciated it. And then we bore testimony of the Savior and how we might forget him, He will never forget us. He has engraved us on the palms of his hands. We also talked about eternal families. I think they are all on the right path. I can't wait to see how they are doing after my mission. I will dearly miss them.

So, ipads should be distributed on Friday? Something like that...

Thanks you so much for the letters this week. I just love every one.

Love,
